Israeli forces quit Qalandiya camp leaving dozens hurt and sixty detained

Israeli forces withdrew from the Qalandiya refugee camp and neighboring Kafr Aqab after a two-day operation that wounded dozens of residents and swept more than sixty into detention or interrogation, the Israeli daily Haaretz reported Thursday, citing the Palestinian Authority's Jerusalem Governorate.
Palestinian Red Crescent teams treated 51 people over the two days, the governorate's count showed. Thirty-eight needed hospitalization after soldiers assaulted them, six were treated where they fell for injuries from beatings, one was struck by rubber bullets and six suffered tear gas inhalation.

The governorate also reported extensive damage to public and private property across the camp, which sits against the separation barrier between Jerusalem and Ramallah and holds refugees of 1948 in one of the most raided corners of the occupied West Bank.
That an Israeli paper carried the toll matters in Israel's own conversation: Haaretz ran the governorate's full figures while the army's account of the operation's purpose remained thin in the same coverage.
The withdrawal closes the raid but not the file. The camp counts its wounded and its sixty missing residents while the forces that took them redeploy a few hundred meters away.
