Gaza residents buried members of the Abu Sharea and al-Husseini families in a ceremony postponed since November 22, 2023, Shehab Wire reported. The funeral marked an end to nearly a thousand days of waiting as families sought to recover the remains of their relatives. The delayed burial was not an ordinary funeral, nor even a mass grave ceremony in the traditional sense Gaza had come to know during the conflict.
The families had waited for almost a year to locate and retrieve the bodies of their dead. The postponement reflected the broader difficulties facing Gazans in identifying and recovering remains of relatives lost during the months of fighting.
